Learn German - AccelaStudy® App Reviews

Good, can be improved

Needs functionality to: 1. Capture new words not in original list the user may want to include in study set 2. Remove words from study set

Its ok

Pros: • Simple UI (to navigate through) • Good looking UI • Clear audio (spoken words) • Easy to read words • Quick loading, very reliable • Word search feature (which offers audio previews within the search) • Quiz mode is nice, and Spaced Repetition mode is great Cons: • Expensive price (even when on sale) • The "Back" button is small and hard to touch properly • Translation feature requires an internet connection • Doesnt offer any phrases — you must figure out how to construct your own phrases using the single words you learn through this application. Its a good app, it does what it says it will. Just keep in mind that it doesnt teach your phrases. If it was cheaper ($4.99 or less), Id rate it 4 stars, as the current price is a little high (and its apparently a sale price). If it offered useful German phrases, Id rate it 5 stars, regardless of the price (to some extent). If you want to learn German phrases, this app isnt for you. However, if you want to learn German words individually, and construct your own phrases, then give it a try. Hopefully phrases get added as a future update. Its a good app for studying individual words though!

Acela

Very disappointing app Hardly any words found Wish I had my money back!

Waste of money

Huge disappointment and money waste. Difficult to figure out and there is no list of common phrases. Most free apps are better.

Still the best way to learn

Learn words first and not grammar. You learn a language the way you learned your first language.

useful flash cards..

but no pronunciation. my iPhone does not speak! 5 stars if they took the next step an added native speakers with each word

DONT BUY IT!

In German it is really important to know if the noun is masculine or feminine or neutral. This program, which is intended to lear German, lacks of this important information, therefore it is worthless and if you buy it, you will just throw your money.

Very disappointing

Theres little use in studying German nouns without the articles (der, die, das). Its really surprising to me that any study aid would leave out something so elementary. Also, the vocabulary list is stacked with many words that I would classify as rarely used in regular conversation and some of the choices seem odd to me. For instance, who uses Fahrzeug instead of Auto to refer to a car? And how many times does Cameroon come up in conversation? My advice is to wait for a better alternative, or a signifcant overhaul to this app.

Great concept, lacking execution

The basic idea behind the interface is excellent, but its as if they rushed a quick idea out the door with no further thought (like many iPhone apps). With no articles, which would be so easy to add, nouns are almost useless. And there is no way to randomize the study -- it alwys starts at the beginning; how useless. Many of the words are overly simplistic, which is fine if you want to look them up but they dont belong in the tests!

Love it

The app has articles before the nouns now, so theres no problem. Great to study with while listening to music. The only thing that could make it better would be pictures to go with the words so one can have word/visual association. Still very useful to me.

Dont buy

Lost the program with iPhone update. There is no response from the company or iTunes so I paid good money to use the program twice.

Why all the negative reviews?

I dont understand. The product works just fine. If you have used any of the many cd based courses available you realize your vocabulary is just too limited to have a meaningful conversation. This app will build put that vocabulary. Flash cards with shuffle turned on and quiz mode work nicely and contradict some of the reviews written by others. It is a bit pricey but overall I am pleased. Perhaps I just got a newer version or something?

Pretty good program - could we have more verbs, though???

This program has already helped my German vocabulary, and I appreciate the quick update to include noun genders. In the next update, could you please include more verbs? Theyre the hardest thing for me in German. Mabye even with the subject noun preceding, (e.g. "Ich brauche") so the conjugations are clear. Also - can you tweak the "Quiz" feature so that it narrows down the words quizzed to correspond with the categories selected? Id like to use the Quiz to drill by category, like travel, kitchen, etc. Thanks for the great program!

Very Useful Application

Its seems to be a useful application that is steadily improving as they respond to user comments. I would love to see a Czech language version soon!

This app has articles der, die and das. Good flashcards.

I found this app to be better than apps like MyWords German, that have no articles. Though there are only 2176 words, it is well laid out and easy to use. Hopefully they will add more words. Phrases would be nice as well.

What happened

I like this application -- when it works. It stopped working on my iPod touch. It is the only application that did that. Now I touch it and it opens a window, never loads the german or english word and then goes back to the menu. I downloaded it 2 times to correct the problem and it still does it. It was getting better..... more words, worked well. What can I do to get it back working? It is great while exercising to review German words. I do wonder why all the documentation online and on the iPod refer to Turkish instead of German.....

AccelaStudy German I English

Not sure what all may have been disliked about this app in the past, but it is a valuable study tool in its present form. It is a very organized and well thought out program that allows many user options creating a personal interface that works best with your own study preferences. I strongly advise this app and look forward to the designers continued product updates.

Great!!

i dont know what you guys are talking about. this app is awesome! it builds your vocabuary then tests you on it! if you have trouble with this app then your an idiot!

One of the best

Ive been studying German for a few years and have tried many different language learning tools. AccelaStudy is one of the best Ive found. The selection of words is decent, the interface is really nice and the audio is professional-quality. I highly recommend this program to anyone learning German! My only complaint is that the choice of words could be better. Many are much too easy, for example der Partner = Partner, der Plan = Plan, das Musical = Musical, das Handball = Handball, der November = November, die Grapefruit = Grapefruit, beige = beige, elegant = elegant, and so on. There are a lot of these.

Pretty Good

This app really does help out on your german. I really like how it has a lot of nouns that you would not always learn in a class. However, there are some weird words, which I think dont really need to be in there, such as "rayon" or "bay leaf". There are a few things I would like that Im really bummed isnt in here. First of all, some pictures could be nice. But all the other apps seem to have a voice that goes along with the words. This one doesnt. So I would only really recomend this app to people who would know how these words sound anyway, because if you cant understand how these words sound you might not really learn them. ONLY for higher level german users.
